Plans include new fencing, additional farm vehicles, a new barn for the north building complex, as well as a multipurpose building with classrooms, bathrooms and housing for on-site personnel.

Dan and Sandra Marvel of Marvel Farms in High Springs were recently recognized at the 2015 Florida Cattlemen’s Convention. They received the 2014-2015 Florida Premier Award for Premier Brangus Female, Marvel’s Kissimmee 513. Further recognition came as they were named the 2014-2015 Premier Brangus Breeder. Congratulations!
Katelynn Bayles, Dana Patterson and Nathan Snead traveled to the Florida State Fair with Dan and Sandra Marvel to participate in both the Open Brangus Cattle Show and the Youth Brangus Cattle Show. In addition to showing cattle they prepared an informational poster, gave an illustrated talk, completed a record book, took a test on record books, and participated in a skilathon on Beef Nutrition.

The winter meeting was held on December 18th, 2014. A delicious meal was catered by Cowboyz Bar-B-Que. Heath Graham from Zoetis shared information about his company. Amy Applegate and Melinda Springer from the USDA provided information about Cattle Traceability Requirements for both interstate and intrastate transport.

Several of our Junior Cattlemen members recently attended the Block and Bridle Showmanship Clinic. We appreciate our Block and Bridle members and all they do for our youth community. Our Junior members are looking forward to upcoming beef shows. Be sure to ask them how their projects are doing.

Alachua County cattlemen produce USDA-inspected products for the American consumer. The health and safety of their animals and consumers is top priority. You can find locally produced beef in many of our Alachua County grocery stores and farmers’ markets.
Much of “Natural Florida” remains in the working landscape of Florida’s cattle industry. With natural areas such as Payne’s Prairie, Devil’s Millhopper, and the numerous rivers and springs such a big part of Alachua County’s landscape, ACCA members also provide additional green space in the county. Our farms and ranches create much needed animal habitat, open space, and diversification.
Alachua County is known for its rich heritage in the cattle industry. We are passionate about maintaining the rich tradition of being stewards of the land. Alachua County cattlemen are dedicated to the preservation of our ranchlands, and to providing a safe and wholesome product to serve your family as well as ours.
The cattle industry contributes significantly to Florida’s economy, providing jobs and delicious beef. We work diligently to give back to the community we serve. In Alachua County, the beef cattle industry contributes $11.3 million in cattle/farming outputs annually. It also has an employment impact of $171 million.
